Statistics in criminal cases are compiled by court staff from information and communications technology
(ICT) systems in offices in Dublin and around the country (CCTS, Lotus Notes) and other sources
(spreadsheets, manual etc). They are collated by the Operational Directorates and distributed by
the Information Office.
To be available from the ICT systems the information must be (a) recorded on an ICT system and
(b) the subject of an ICT programme to extract it. Work is currently underway to modify/improve
some of the Dublin systems in preparation for the establishment of a Combined Court Office in the
new Criminal Courts of Justice (‘CCJ’). This should improve the range and quality of information
available in respect of the criminal courts in Dublin.
